Exits polls signal shift to left in favour of Hollande

In France, there has been a swing to the left, in favour of the President Francois Hollande after round one of parliamentary elections.

Exit polls show that the President’s Socialist Party and its allies are heading for an absolute majority.

This should give President Hollande free reign to push through tax-and-spend reforms.

The election also saw a surge in support for the National Front which won almost 14% of votes, according to the exit polls.
