A freight train carriage that derailed in northern Iowa rolled into and damaged a track-side bar – called DeRailed.

The accident happened as crews moved carriages and changed connections in Charles City, about 140 miles north east of Des Moines.

Police chief Hugh Anderson said it appeared that the track separated and the grain carriage tipped about 45 degrees into the back of the bar.

Mr Anderson said a patrol officer called him to say a train carriage had derailed into DeRailed, adding: “It’s not every day you get to say that.”

No-one was injured but damage to the bar was estimated at 10,000 dollars (£7,700).
