The Eiffel Tower has been closed for the day during nationwide protests across France against plans to reform labour laws.

The company that runs France’s most famous monument said that
with some personnel taking part in strike action, there are not enough people to open the Eiffel Tower and ensure public safety.

Protesters from numerous sectors will march through Paris later on Tuesday, as the Senate votes on the controversial labour measure that would make France’s 35-hour working week longer and lay-offs easier. The measure must still be reviewed by the lower house.

The Bill has led to several protests across France in recent months, often involving violence.
