Our daily intake of all sorts of foods and chemicals especially processed foods lead to an accumulation of toxic substances in our body. These toxins build up leading to different ailments or sometimes diseases that could have been avoided. Detoxification is a process of removing these toxins from our bodies and is recommended by medical experts to have regular detox. Our body requires water to function and the fluid makes up around 60% of our body weight.

Water is a good source of energy and this is why it is recommended to drink up to 12 cups of water daily for effective body hydration. Water detox is most popular because water naturally cleanses the digestive system and a natural energizer. You can use several fruits mixed with water to achieve your desired flavoured detox water.
Look no further, it’s time to get a basket of fruits and get started on a new weekly or daily regime of personal cleansing with my favourite water detox.

Lemon, Lime, & Mint Detox

This is one of most effective and very simple DIY Detox that can be easily achieved by anyone. Lemon and lime help to stimulate the digestive system and eases the bowels to get rid of constipation and gas. History has it that lemon, trusted by the Romans was a cure for all poisons. This may not be proven medically but the citric acid and vitamin c in lemons work to boost your immunity.

Mint has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any food hence its versatile use as herbs, spices, candies and a host of beauty products. Mint leaves have a refreshing taste and known for it’s medicinal qualities in the treatment of the common cold and indigestion. Modern research has confirmed that mint can help stop colitis and irritable syndrome. Fresh mint leaves are rich in vitamins A, C, B12, iron, zinc and potassium.

A fusion of lemon, lime and mint in a jug of water mixed with a dash of cloves will work wonders on the digestive tract. Cloves are rich in vitamins A and C and have anti-septic properties. The combination of a handful of cloves to the detox water gives it a sweet aromatic fragrance. Leaving the breathe minty fresh will be a bonus added for good measure.

Suggestion amounts for a jug:

4 limes sliced into halves
2 lemon sliced into 4 parts
12 mint leaves
1.5 Litres of spring water
Handful of cloves
