<p>More than 9,000 jobs will be lost at the Home Office and its agencies &#8211; including the UK Border Agency &#8211; under the Government&#8217;s spending cuts, one of Britain&#8217;s top civil servants has said.</p>
<p>Sir David Normington, the permanent secretary at the Home Office, said the number of jobs will be cut by between 2,500 and 2,600 this year, followed by the loss of a further 6,500 jobs over the next four years.</p>
<p>The UK Border Agency will bear the brunt of the losses.</p>
<p>Giving evidence to the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee, he said: &#8220;Overall the Home Office and its executive agencies are going to lose 6,500 staff over the four years starting next April and 650, which is about just over 21%, will be from the Home Office.</p>
<p>&#8220;Remember the bulk of staff in the Home Office are with the UK Border Agency.</p>
<p>&#8220;This year we&#8217;re reducing our numbers, the number of jobs by 2,500, maybe 2,600, so you&#8217;ve got to add that to the 6,500.&#8221;</p>
