		</div><p>Supermarket Aldi&#8217;s pledged to put staff wages up to a minimum of €11.50 an hour from next February.</p>
<p>That means an increase of 4.5% on the entry level pay for store assistants and 10% for stock assistants and caretakers, who will benefit most from the new rate.</p>
<p>Aldi has also announced plans to recruit and train more than 400 people as it expands next year as it will soon open another Irish branch, bringing its number in the country to 122 outlets.</p>
<p>Rival supermarket chain Lidl has already committed to salary increases in line with the National Living Wage.</p>
<p>In the UK the company has pledged that all of its UK employees will be paid at least £8.40 (€11.67) an hour, and £9.45 (€13.13) an hour in London, from February 1 2016.</p>
