<p>Four Britons held in Bahrain for 18 months after being placed under investigation following the collapse of the banks where they worked have been released, it has emerged.</p>
<p>Alistair MacLeod, Anthony James and Cliff Giddings were forced to surrender their passports last July following the collapse of Awal Bank, a Saudi bank where they all worked.</p>
<p>Another Briton, Kevin Moriarty, was also held following the collapse of The International Banking Corporation (TIBC).</p>
<p>Authorities in Bahrain have now released the four men, who were all placed under criminal investigation as part of a wider examination of the collapse of the financial organisations but who were never charged with any offence.</p>
<p>A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: &#8220;We are aware of this case and have been providing consular assistance. We cannot comment on the detail of this.&#8221;</p>
<p>Foreign Secretary William Hague last month raised concerns about the detention of the four men during a meeting in London with Salman ibn Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and heir apparent to the King of Bahrain.</p>
