<p>Graffiti guru Banksy could be absent from this weekend&#8217;s Oscars.</p>
<p>The enigmatic UK artist, who is up for an Academy Award for his film Exit Through the Gift Shop, didn&#8217;t appear with his fellow documentary feature nominees during a panel at the motion picture academy&#8217;s Beverly Hills headquarters &#8211; and the film&#8217;s producer Jaimie D&#8217;Cruz isn&#8217;t sure he&#8217;ll turn up for Sunday&#8217;s ceremony.</p>
<p>&#8220;Not as far as I know,&#8221; he teased.</p>
<p>Banksy is thought to be in Los Angeles however, as several new artworks have sprung up around town this month. </p>
<p>His controversial film is up against the war chronicle Restrepo, financial meltdown expose Inside Job, environmental odyssey Gasland, and garbage dump art project Waste Land.</p>
<p>When Banksy was nominated he released a statement saying: &#8220;This is a big surprise. I don&#8217;t agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I&#8217;m prepared to make an exception for the ones I&#8217;m nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me.&#8221;</p>
