		</div><p>The BBC said it is hoping to resume filming on soaps including EastEnders <em>“as soon as possible”</em>.</p>
<p>On-site production of the broadcaster’s continuing dramas – including Casualty, Holby City and Doctors – was paused in March in response to the coronavirus pandemic.</p>
<p>The BBC has been showing two episodes of EastEnders a week to make the already filmed shows last as long as possible.</p>
<p>Controller of BBC drama Piers Wenger said the soaps are <em>“under a constant process of reassessment” and head of continuing drama Kate Oates is working to get the shows “back on their feet as soon as possible”</em>.</p>
<p>He added: <em>“Nobody wants EastEnders not to be on screen and I don’t think there’s anyone more determined than Kate to get it back on screen as soon as possible.</em></p>
<p><em>“We do have to abide by the rules and while social distancing is in place it is going to be difficult. There are ways of cheating, actors being close enough together to interact in a scene.”</em></p>
<p>Wenger pointed to the example of Australian soap Neighbours, which has resumed filming but with social distancing rules in place and other limitations, including banning kissing on set.</p>
<p>Wenger, speaking during an online session held by the Edinburgh TV Festival as part of its The Controller series, added: <em>“We’re not quite at that point yet. But all of those conversation are being had and there is a real determination to get that show back up and running.”</em></p>
