<p>Colin Firth has admitted that he nearly didn&#8217;t make it on to the staqe to pick up the second SAG award for The King&#8217;s Speech.</p>
<p>The actor had just picked up the award for best actor when it was announced that he and his co-stars had also won the gong for best cast.</p>
<p>Colin revealed that he was backstage when the news was announced, and said: &#8220;You couldn&#8217;t hear it properly from where I was standing. And it was the stage manager that said, &#8216;You have to go back out, because your movie just won&#8217;.&#8221;</p>
<p>The actor, who plays King George VI as he attempts to overcome his stammer, made the admission after picking up yet another award &#8211; this time for best ensemble at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where his co-star Geoffrey Rush picked up the Montecito Award for career achievement.</p>
<p>The film was also an upset winner at the Directors Guild of America Awards, where its filmmaker Tom Hooper triumphed over David Fincher, who had been considered the favourite for The Social Network.</p>
<p>Hooper said: &#8220;When Kathryn Bigelow read my name out, my body literally started to shake. I mean, it was vibrating from head to toe. I&#8217;ve never physically experienced anything like it in my life. I was kind of like, literally, &#8216;What&#8217;s happening to me?&#8217; I was in such a state of utterly blissful shock.&#8221;</p>
