Other stars who have previously launched London’s festive shopping season have included Kylie Minogue, Jessie J and Robbie Williams.

Craig, 35, will switch on the famous lights on Sunday after cementing his return to the charts with his first number one album in 16 years.

The singer said: “It’s a great honour to be switching on the lights and lighting up Oxford Street. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and an incredible 2017.”

Craig, best known for his song 7 Days before becoming a figure of fun thanks to comedian Leigh Francis’s caricature of the star, was propelled to the top of the charts last month with new album Following My Intuition.

Sunday’s event will also feature live performances from Nathan Sykes, The Vamps and last year’s X Factor winner Louisa Johnson.

The launch, hosted by Capital FM’s Will Manning and Aimee Vivian and taking place in partnership with children’s charity the NSPCC, kicks off at 6.15pm.
