		</div><p>EU ambassadors have agreed to accept the UK’s request for a Brexit “flextension” until January 31 2020, European Council president Donald Tusk has said.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;The EU27 has agreed that it will accept the UK&#8217;s request for a Brexit flextension until 31 January 2020,&#8221;</em> he tweeted.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;The decision is expected to be formalised through a written procedure,&#8221;</em> he added.</p>

<p>The UK would be able to leave earlier, according to reports, with Brexit going ahead on the first day of the month after a deal is ratified.</p>
<p>Boris Johnson has said in the past he would prefer to be “dead in a ditch” than miss the October 31 deadline.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, British MPs will vote later on whether to back a December general election.</p>
