<p>Colin Firth has expressed his joy at the success of The King&#8217;s Speech in the Oscar nominations.</p>
<p>The British star &#8211; who scored one of the film&#8217;s 12 nods for his portrayal of King George VI &#8211; said of the news: &#8220;Currently celebrating with my colleagues three feet above the ground. Not used to this much joy, or this much champagne at this hour.&#8221;</p>
<p>Meanwhile his co-star Geoffrey Rush, up for best supporting actor, said from Sydney: &#8220;I&#8217;ve been texting people in between interviews and there&#8217;s a lot of excitement going on across the globe from our team. </p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really wonderful. It&#8217;s sort of like &#8216;Ben-Hur&#8217; proportions. It all seems a bit crazy, you know?&#8221;</p>
<p>Former Oscar winner and Academy member Ron Howard had earlier hinted at nomination success for The King&#8217;s Speech.</p>
<p>The Beautiful Mind director said: &#8220;I&#8217;m an Academy member so I&#8217;m not supposed to make predictions or tell you how I voted, but that [The King&#8217;s Speech] is a tremendous film.&#8221;</p>
<p>David Fincher&#8217;s Facebook movie The Social Network is tipped to be The King&#8217;s Speech&#8217;s main rival in the best film category.</p>
<p>Its star Jesse Eisenberg &#8211; up for the leading actor gong &#8211; said: &#8220;To be nominated for this award, especially alongside these other actors, is truly astonishing and a great honour for me.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fincher, hoping for success in the best director field, said: &#8220;I&#8217;m very grateful and humbled by the nominations for The Social Network. I&#8217;m incredibly proud of the work of my wildly talented collaborators in front of and behind the camera.&#8221;</p>
<p>Meanwhile British filmmaker Mike Leigh said of his original screenplay nomination for Another Year: &#8220;I&#8217;m thrilled to bits.&#8221;</p>
