Some yoga studios in the US are offering their own jobless benefit: free classes.

With national unemployment just below 10%, $20 (£13) yoga classes don’t qualify as necessities for many unemployed people who’ve pruned luxuries from their budgets.

So now, in studios in New York, Columbus, Ohio and other US cities, former managers, laid-off limo drivers and other jobless people can turn to free downward-facing dogs to ease the stress of being out of work.

Some yogis – like Zack Lynn of Yoga On High in Ohio – say they don’t want unemployed people to have to choose between food and yoga.

They say breathing exercises can cut through the stress of job interviews and post-stretching tea-time is good for networking.
