<p>George Clooney has attracted huge crowds in the streets of Cincinnati &#8211; with fans standing in the cold for hours to watch the star film Ides Of March.</p>
<p>The Hollywood heartthrob directs and stars as a Democratic governor running in the presidential primaries in the film which is shooting around the region in which he grew up.</p>
<p>Dozens of fans stood for hours with cameras and cell phones at the ready, to watch him film on Wednesday in Cincinnati&#8217;s downtown Fountain Square and a recent casting call for 1,500 extras drew 23,000 responses.</p>
<p>Crew members asked fans to be still whenever filming began, and their requests were consistently met with a hush.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been fine,&#8221; movie publicist Tracey Schaefer said of the crowds. &#8220;People have been very respectful of the boundaries.&#8221;</p>
<p>Born in Lexington, Kentucky, George grew up in the Cincinnati area of Ohio where his father, Nick Clooney, was a popular local journalist and TV personality. His late aunt Rosemary Clooney was a famed singer.</p>
<p>Veteran Cincinnati Enquirer media writer John Kiesewetter said local people have bonded with the actor.</p>
<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s not just a huge star to people here; they have grown up with him&#8221;, he said. &#8220;They feel like they know him. They feel like he&#8217;s one of us.&#8221;</p>
<p>WCPO-TV sports anchor Dennis Janson says George has made time to see old friends &#8211; he hadn&#8217;t seen the TV anchor for 20 years, but greeted him with a bear hug and quickly started talking about the University of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball team and the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.</p>
<p>The film also stars Ryan Gosling, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman.</p>
