<p>Killer Derrick Bird warned &#8220;they are going to get it big style&#8221;, days before opening fire on fellow taxi drivers, an inquest was told.</p>
<p>The gunman took bloody revenge on fellow workers, some of whom he claimed had abused and made fun of him while working at the taxi rank in Whitehaven, Cumbria.</p>
<p>Branded &#8220;stinky&#8221; and &#8220;tatty head&#8221; for his dishevelled appearance, Bird, who killed 12 people before he shot himself dead during the rampage in west Cumbria on June 2 last year, complained other drivers would &#8220;wind him up&#8221; and jump the taxi queue to take his fares.</p>
<p>Bird became the butt of practical jokes, had his tyres slashed repeatedly, was drenched in coffee and tricked into eating soap blocks used to disinfect toilets, the inquest heard.</p>
<p>John McDonald, a co-worker, spoke to Bird two days before the massacre at the taxi rank in Whitehaven and he told the inquest: &#8220;He said there were a few of the lads on the rank winding him up and he said &#8216;they are going to get it big style. You just watch, they are going to get it big style&#8217;.&#8221;</p>
<p>The next day 52-year-old Bird, a self-employed cab driver, said Darren Rewcastle, 43, had thrown coffee all over him at the rank, the inquest was told.</p>
<p>The following day, June 2, last year, after murdering his twin brother David and solicitor Kevin Commons, 60, he drove to the rank in Whitehaven.</p>
<p>He spotted Pauline Cullen, the wife of a friend, and waved to her as he drove through the town, heading for the taxi rank.</p>
<p>There he called over Mr Rewcastle to his Citroen Picasso cab. As he leaned in to speak, Bird opened fire with his shotgun at point blank range, hitting his victim in the face and neck, then blasting him again in the stomach.</p>
<p>Bird then shot another taxi driver, Donald Reid, in the back, blasted Paul Wilson in the face and opened fire on Terence Kennedy in his cab. Mr Kennedy survived but had to have a portion of his right lower arm amputated.</p>
