<p>A late fan of the cult movie Highlander has had a feature on the Isle of Skye named after him following an online competition to mark the film&#8217;s 25th anniversary.</p>
<p>The 1986 release starred Christopher Lambert as immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, with Sir Sean Connery featuring as his mentor. </p>
<p>Filming took place on Skye, where enthusiast Ronnie Elder has had a gorge officially named after him after he was nominated by his son James.</p>
<p>Mr Elder, from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, was an avid hillwalker and took his family on a Highlander-inspired trip to the island when they were young.</p>
<p>Father-of-five Mr Elder died suddenly in 2007 aged 51 having previously enjoyed good health. When he heard about the competition, his son James jumped at the chance to have his father remembered at one of his favourite spots.</p>
<p>James said: &#8220;As a kid my friends had heroes such as Spiderman and Batman, but my hero was my dad. No matter what we asked him to do, he could do it.</p>
<p>&#8220;He loved Scotland and hillwalking, and he was very excited when Highlander came out. That&#8217;s what inspired him to take us to Skye. It&#8217;s an honour for my father&#8217;s name to be remembered this way forever.&#8221;</p>
<p>The newly-named Ronnie Elder&#8217;s Gorge, which lies within Clan MacLeod territory, will appear in the 2012 Collins Big Road Atlas of Britain.</p>
<p>The winning entry was picked by Rachael Jackson, a descendent of the Clan MacLeod, who co-runs The Skye Food Company and whose family runs Orbost Farm, near the gorge. The competition was devised by video-on-demand website blinkbox, which features the Highlander television series.</p>
<p>The Russell Mulcahy-directed movie featured the well-known tagline &#8220;there can be only one&#8221; and boasts a soundtrack by the rock band Queen.</p>
