		</div><p>The United States is to take in more refugees from around the world to try to help with the on-going refugee crisis.</p>
<p>US Secretary of State John Kerry wants to accept 85,000 next year, rising to 100,000 in 2017. The US had previously agreed to 70,000 refugees.</p>
<p>John Kerry has not said how many of the refugees will be from Syria, but has confirmed that Washington is ready to help. The United States has taken in about 1,500 Syrian refugees since the conflict began more than four years ago</p>
<p>He said the United States would explore ways to increase the limit beyond 100,000 in future years while carrying out background checks to ensure that the refugees have not been infiltrated by terrorists.</p>
<p>“This step is in keeping with America’s best tradition as a land of second chances and a beacon of hope,” he said.</p>
<p>EU Ministers are still divided over plans to relocate 140,000 refugees around the continent.</p>
