		</div><p>The new King Charles III has been officially declared today as the head of state of the United Kingdom in a historic meeting of the Accession Council at St James’s Palace in London.</p>

<p>The Accession Council includes 200 dignitaries including a selection of privy counsellors and the high commissioners of the 14 Commonwealth countries where the monarch is head of state.</p>
<p>His role as King and the name he will use was confirmed at this meeting and the documents signed at the meeting according to tradition. This historic event was televised for the first time in history with cameras around the room recording this live being watched by the British public.</p>

<p>King Charles, 73 years of age is the oldest king in waiting in history and he became King after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.</p>
<p>Broadcast cameras were allowed into the historic event giving the world a first glimpse of an ancient ceremony dating back centuries – and one of the first changes to convention instigated by the new King.</p>
