<p>An ex-official tasked with investigating corruption in China has been executed for taking more than £3.1 million in bribes.</p>
<p>Zeng Jinchun was shot on Thursday, said the state-run Xinhua News Agency.</p>
<p>He was the ruling Communist party&#8217;s top corruption inspector for Chenzhou city in the central province of Hunan.</p>
<p>Zeng was found guilty of taking the 31 million yuan in bribes in return for handing out mining contracts and job promotions over a decade ending in 2006.</p>
<p>The execution came a day after top Communist Party officials in Beijing again promised to crack down on the corruption that is a major source of social unrest throughout the country.</p>
