Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has said he plans to build artificial intelligence to help him out around the house.

In a post on the social networking site, he says his personal challenge this year will be to build a “simple A.I.” that responds to his voice and recognises his friends’ faces when they ring the doorbell.

He said: “I’m looking forward to sharing what I learn over the course of the year.”

Zuckerberg’s past challenges have included reading two books every month, learning Mandarin and meeting a new person every day.

Of his 2016 challenge, he said: “You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man.”

His first step will be to understand what technology already exists, and then to start teaching a simple AI to understand his voice to control everything in the home Zuckerberg shares with wife Priscilla Chan and their baby daughter Max.

Zuckerberg plans to undertake coding the new AI himself.

He also plans to have it help him visualise data in virtual reality data in VR “to help (him) build better services and lead (his) organizations more effectively”. That’ll be the Tony Stark bit then…
