Migration has been a major point of interest over the past few months, especially during the 2015 General Elections. Politicians have used the election as an opportunity for them to squeeze in a few votes in different areas of the UK, and having people vote with their emotions, rather than their minds. The Office of National Statistics (ONS) released a quarter report of the net migration of the UK, stating that it had increased by 330,000 from March 2014 to March 2015.

The UK has always been a destination of interest for all migrants coming from war torn areas like Syria and Lybia, as well as some European Countries. But out of the Syrian migrants fleeing to Europe, it was found out early September that the UK has only taken in 216 migrants. So where exactly could the rest of these migrants come from? Well the data listed by citizen ship how many migrants there were coming to the UK.

269,000 EU citizens (53,000 Romanians and Hungarians)

284,000 Non-EU citizens

83,000 British citizens

Emigration decreased from 316,000 to 307,000 from March 2014 to March 2015. Work-related reasons were the reasons why most people left the Uk. Others included wanting to live closer to their homes, whether it may be in the EU or other parts of the world.

Worries of increasing net migration

Some of the major issues of this growing net migration is housing. At the rate we are growing, which is currently nearly 2 million people every 5 years according to an ONS population summary, we could run out of housing for the number of migrants to the country. The current population is at 64.1 million people, and estimations show that by 2020 we would have about 67.2 million. It still remains a topic of interest how we will be able to house that number of people in the next 5 years.
