		</div><p>We’re now in the third day of the operation to clear up the Calais “Jungle”, an effort that is proving to be plagued with difficulties. Now, several large fires have broken out in the sprawling migrant camp.</p>
<p>Charred remains of what hours earlier were shops and restaurants providing residents with chai tea and naan bread flanked the once-bustling main thoroughfare.</p>
<p>Lines of refugees and migrants stood on the ridge overlooking the camp, some taking pictures as the flames were fuelled by the wind.</p>
<p>As the fires spread, aid workers were seen dragging gas canisters away in an attempt to stop the situation worsening.</p>
<p>Police were ushering people out of the camp, many of whom held fabric to their mouths and noses to protect against the thick black smoke.</p>
<p>Dozens of armed riot police stood on the edge of the camp in a line.</p>
<p>Four migrants have been arrested in connection with starting fires, said Patrick Visser-Bourdon, the Calais police commissioner in charge of the operation.</p>
<p>Dorothy Sang, from Save the Children, said she was “extremely concerned for children both inside containers in camp and those who have not been registered” as the camp went up in flames.</p>
<p>The Help Refugees charity reported that unaccompanied children were being sent back to the camp’s raging fires as registration of minors had stopped for the day.</p>
