NERD would like to join forces with MGMT.
Shay Haley reckons that his bandmates Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams could come up with something interesting with psychedelic rockers Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden.
“A collaboration with NERD and MGMT would be pretty sick,” Shay said.
NERD – who are playing an exclusive show at London’s Troxy on November 27 for the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project – are working on a track with Damon Albarn, after supporting Gorillaz on tour.
“We’re working on a song with him. He is a genius, a cool guy,” Pharrell admitted.
But he declined to reveal any further details, saying: “I can’t do that. He’s like us – we like to keep everything veiled until it’s time.”
NERD, who are celebrating 10 years of music-making with the release of their greatest hits compilation The Best Of NERD on January 10, promise more “incredible music” for the next decade.
“Music is changing and it’s becoming even more exciting. The invigorating, ground-breaking stuff is on its way back, and I think rock ‘n’ roll is going to come back in a huge way,” said Pharrell.
“Kanye’s [West] new album is dope, we’re happy that Lil Wayne is home. We’re excited to see what Chris Martin does next, the joint Jay-Z and Kanye record should be interesting, and Nicki Minaj is arriving.”
:: NERD will be playing alongside Zane Lowe and Jaguar Skills live at the grand finale of the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project at the Troxy in London, where 14 countries are swapping nightlife on the same night. Visit http://www.facebook.com/smirnoffGB for details.
