		</div><p>The House of Republicans have rejected the proposal from US President Donald Trump&#8217;s and the Democrats. The stimulus check is intended to aid Americans through the coronavirus pandemic.</p>
<p>In a brief pro forma session on Christmas Eve, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer requested a vote on a bill to increase the stimulus from $600 to $2,000 for most individuals receiving the $900bn Covid relief.</p>
<p>In a Twitter video earlier this week, President Trump threatened to veto the $900bn Covid relief package unless lawmakers signed off on increasing the payments to $2,000.</p>

<p>Trump is now at headlocks with his republican counterparts who, for most of the pandemic, debated with Democrats on keeping the value of the stimulus checks at $1,200. Some Democratic lawmakers were advocating $2,000 monthly checks since spring 2020.</p>
<p>“If the president is serious about the $2,000 direct payments, he must call on House Republicans to end their obstruction,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement on Thursday.</p>

<p>She added: “House and Senate Democrats have repeatedly fought for bigger checks for the American people, which House and Senate Republicans have repeatedly rejected — first, during our negotiations when they said that they would not go above $600 and now, with this act of callousness on the Floor.&#8221;</p>
<p>“To vote against this bill is to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny them the relief they need.&#8221;</p>
<p>If Trump decided to veto the stimulus programme, many severe consequences may follow.</p>
<p>Millions of jobless Americans are in need of these stimulus checks, and approximately 12 million were expected to be cut off jobless aid altogether. Should the proposal pass, then the recipients are (regardless if the value is $1,200 or $2,000.</p>
