<p>US stocks have ended the day mixed after President Barack Obama said he was willing to compromise with Republicans on extending Bush-era tax cuts.</p>
<p>In a speech, Obama said he was willing cede ground to help lawmakers reach an agreement that would extend the tax cuts along with unemployment benefits.</p>
<p>According to preliminary calculations, the Dow Jones industrial average is down 20, or 0.2%, at 11,362. The S&#038;P 500 index is down 1, or 0.1%, at 1,223.</p>
<p>The Nasdaq composite index is up 3, or 0.1%t, at 2,594.</p>
<p>Rising shares and falling ones were almost evenly matched on the New York Stock Exchange. Trading volume was 804 million shares.</p>
