		</div><p>Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, jailed for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, has been released from prison tonight and put under house arrest, a South African official said.</p>
<p>The Olympian was jailed for five years last year after being convicted of the manslaughter of Reeva Steenkamp and was released to his uncle&#8217;s home in Pretoria, South Africa today where he is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence.</p>
<p>The athlete emerged from jail a day earlier than expected, a spokesman from the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre announced.</p>
<p>According to the BBC, he will do a &#8220;period of community service&#8221; and his conditions of release from prison include psychotherapy and restrictions on gun ownership.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the 28-year-old athlete&#8217;s case is scheduled to go in front of South Africa&#8217;s Supreme Court of Appeal again in November as prosecutors plan to challenge the decision to acquit him of murder.</p>
<p>The appeal hearing means Pistorius could be found guilty of murder and face a minimum of 15 years in prison, if a panel of judges at the Supreme Court of Appeal overturn the original verdict.</p>
<p>Prosecutors believe Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentine&#8217;s Day 2013 after an argument but the Olympian insists he mistook the model for an intruder when he shot her through a closed bathroom door.</p>
<p>Judge Thokozile Masipa ruled in December that prosecutors could appeal her verdict at the Supreme Court of Appeal.</p>
