marketing slogans&comma; according to a group which campaigns for public bodies to improve their use of English&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The Plain English Campaign &lpar;PEC&rpar; says no-one needs to be told that police are &&num;8220&semi;protecting our communities by reducing crime and anti-social behaviour&&num;8221&semi;&comma; &&num;8220&semi;keeping our communities safe and reassured&&num;8221&semi; or &&num;8220&semi;serving our communities&comma; protecting them from harm&&num;8221&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The group says the police service has nothing to sell and the word &&num;8220&semi;police&&num;8221&semi; tells people all they need to know&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Most forces attach slogans to their names on websites and some add slogans to vehicles&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Avon &&num;038&semi; Somerset is &&num;8220&semi;Working Together to Make the Communities of Avon &&num;038&semi; Somerset Feel Safe and Be Safe&&num;8221&semi;&semi; Cambridgeshire is &&num;8220&semi;Creating a Safer Cambridgeshire&&num;8221&semi;&semi; Essex is &&num;8220&semi;Taking a Lead in Making Essex Safer&&num;8221&semi;&semi; Kent is &&num;8220&semi;Protecting and Serving the People of Kent&&num;8221&semi; and Norfolk says &&num;8220&semi;Our Priority is You&&num;8221&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;We know that police forces already have more than enough paperwork to deal with so let&&num;8217&semi;s see an end to these pointless slogans&comma;&&num;8221&semi; said a PEC spokeswoman&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;Some are just meaningless&period; Northumbria&&num;8217&semi;s slogan is &&num;8216&semi;Total Policing&&num;8217&semi;&period; What does that mean&quest; Do some police forces operate &&num;8216&semi;partial policing&&num;8217&semi;&quest;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;And what purpose do they serve&quest; Will someone be more inclined to ring 999 in Cumbria because the police force slogan is &&num;8216&semi;Safer Stronger Cumbria&&num;8217&semi;&quest;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;Or is it being suggested that victims of crime should shop around&quest; Is it better to be mugged in Suffolk because the police there are &&num;8216&semi;Taking Pride in Keeping Suffolk Safe&&num;8217&semi; than in Northamptonshire&comma; where they are &&num;8216&semi;Putting Communities First&&num;8217&semi;&quest;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>She added&colon; &&num;8220&semi;It&&num;8217&semi;s not just about wasting words &&num;8211&semi; there has to be a cost to the public&period; Someone must be paid to create these slogans&comma; add them to websites and paint them on cars and so on&period;
