		</div><p>Police in North Dakota &#8211; where thousands of people are protesting a controversial pipeline project &#8211; have defended their use of rubber bullets and water canon.</p>
<p>Climate activists and Native Americans at Standing Rock are campaigning against the €3.5bn project.</p>
<p>Thousands of military veterans have pledged, if necessary, to act as human shields at the camp.</p>
<p>Protesters are worried the pipeline could contaminate the water supply: We&#8217;re here to protect our water.</p>
<p><i>&#8220;We have made a relationship with all our sacred elements. Standing Rock is home now, that’s how much it means to me. This is where everybody had come to say enough is enough.</p>
<p>&#8220;In the future, with what the government is doing there will be no further generations so we are fighting till the end.&#8221;</i></p>
