<p>A police officer has been shot and wounded during a stand-off with a gunman at a house in West Yorkshire.</p>
<p>The injured officer has been taken to hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.</p>
<p>Police attended the property in the village of Kirkheaton, near Huddersfield, just before 10pm on Monday to arrest a man following an incident earlier in the day. However, when they arrived at the address, the man produced a gun and opened fire, wounding one of the officers.</p>
<p>Armed police have now cordoned off the area and surrounded the house, but the 42-year-old gunman has continued to fire shots, a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said.</p>
<p>&#8220;Just after 10pm (on Monday) officers attended a domestic address in the Kirkheaton area of Huddersfield to arrest a man following an incident earlier in the day,&#8221; added the spokesman.</p>
<p>&#8220;The man produced a gun and fired at the officers. A male officer in his 20s was hit and attended hospital for minor injuries.</p>
<p>&#8220;Armed officers have now surrounded the premises and are trying to resolve the situation peacefully although shots have continually been fired at the officers.&#8221;</p>
<p>The spokesman said that no shots had been fired by the police and the gunman posed no &#8220;ongoing&#8221; risk to the general public.</p>
<p>It is believed he is the only person inside the property and it is not known what type of gun he possesses.</p>
<p>Police attended the address to arrest the man on suspicion of making threats towards another individual at a nearby property earlier in the day, the spokesman added.</p>
