<p>Police are locked in an armed siege with a gunman at a house in West Yorkshire after he opened fire on officers as they attempted to arrest him.</p>
<p>A male PC was hit by a bullet and suffered minor injuries when the 42-year-old man took aim at a number of uniformed officers from his doorstep.</p>
<p>The gunman then returned inside the property, in the village of Kirkheaton, near Huddersfield, before continuing to fire shots at police.</p>
<p>Teams of armed officers cordoned off the area and surrounded the &#8220;isolated&#8221; address following the incident late on Monday. Negotiators have been involved in a tense stand-off with the man since.</p>
<p>A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: &#8220;Just after 10pm (on Monday) officers attended a domestic address in the Kirkheaton area of Huddersfield to arrest a man following an incident earlier in the day.</p>
<p>&#8220;The man produced a gun and fired at the officers. A male officer in his 20s was hit and attended hospital for minor injuries but has since been discharged.</p>
<p>&#8220;Armed officers have now surrounded the premises and are trying to resolve the situation peacefully although shots have continually been fired at the officers.&#8221;</p>
<p>The spokesman said that no shots had been fired by the police and the gunman posed no &#8220;ongoing&#8221; risk to the general public.</p>
<p>It is believed he is the only person inside the property and it is not known what type of gun he possesses.</p>
<p>Police attended the address to arrest the man on suspicion of making threats towards another man at a nearby property earlier in the day, the spokesman added.</p>
