<p>Polls in Wales have opened as voters decide in a referendum whether the Welsh Assembly should have more legislative powers.</p>
<p>People are being asked whether Wales should be able to pass its own laws in its 20 devolved areas &#8211; which include health, education and local government.</p>
<p>Polling stations opened at 7am on Thursday, with people able to cast their votes until 10pm.</p>
<p>Results from the 22 local authorities will be collated at a central count at the assembly&#8217;s Senedd building, in Cardiff Bay, from Friday morning. A result is expected later that day.</p>
<p>The Electoral Commission said that 2,289,042 people were eligible vote, with 372,586 doing so via post.</p>
<p>A &#8216;Yes&#8217; vote would mean the Welsh Assembly no longer needs to apply to parliament for law-making powers on a case-by-case basis.</p>
<p>A &#8216;No&#8217; vote would keep the existing system of Legislative Competence Orders.</p>
<p>Opposing campaign groups Say Yes For Wales and True Wales have both urged voters to exercise their democratic right to vote.</p>
