The latest Harry Potter film - starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint - has been a worldwide hit

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 has taken the global box office by storm.

The seventh instalment in the Harry Potter franchise – starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – earned nearly 165 million dollars during its first weekend of release in 40 countries outside of North America, pushing the overall global gross for the eight-film franchise to a record 5.7 billion.

With a staggering 155 million dollars separating the top two films last weekend, Due Date continued to spread the laughter in 30 territories, crossing the 130-million-dollar mark with a third-weekend gross of 8.7 million.

The weekend’s only other wide-release opener was Russell Crowe’s The Next Three Days, which mirrored its poor domestic debut with a gross of about 1.5 million dollars at nearly 2,700 international locations.
