<p>Protesters have been removed from the House of Commons public gallery after they stood up, waved and shouted during a tense debate on controversial plans to treble university tuition fees.</p>
<p>Around five protesters were strong-armed out of the chamber by doorkeepers, as much of the rest of the public gallery burst into applause.</p>
<p>Most MPs were oblivious to the happenings above them as the gallery&#8217;s reinforced glass screen blocked out the sound.</p>
<p>The young protesters, both men and women, stood up in the public gallery and shouted while waving papers before several officials ran over and bundled them up the stairs and out of the chamber.</p>
<p>Around 20 members of the public who had been seated around the protesters clapped loudly as they left.</p>
<p>The drama unfolded as Labour MPs loudly heckled Business Secretary Vince Cable as he outlined the Government&#8217;s plans.</p>
<p>Thousands of protesters gathered on the streets of Westminster ahead of the vote, which could see up to half of Liberal Democrats rebelling against the coalition.</p>
<p>Students, lecturers and activists will march through central London in a last-ditch protest against plans to allow English universities to charge up to £9,000 per year in fees from 2012.</p>
<p>Commons Leader Sir George Young has urged the police to act &#8220;sensibly&#8221; during the protests.</p>
<p>Previous demonstrations have been marred by violence and damage to property.</p>
