Prince William and Kate Middleton have been transformed into the infamous punk couple Sid and Nancy in the latest piece of artwork inspired by the royal wedding.

Artist Rich Simmons, 24, a Prince’s Trust ambassador, has created a mural on London’s Southbank in honour of the pair who will wed in April.

In the artwork William and his fiancee both wear leather jackets, and Kate is in a miniskirt while holding a cigarette and the prince sports a dog collar against the backdrop of the union flag.

Above the couple’s head are the words “FUTURE ***KING”.

The artist took his inspiration from the photograph of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen by 1970s photographer Jamie Reid.

Simmons, originally from Peterborough but now living in London, spent 50 hours creating the stencils for the piece then a further five hours spraying it onto an official graffiti wall this afternoon.

He received a Prince’s Trust grant to help start his art therapy organisation which works with young people and says he still supports and helps to raise funds for the Trust.

The artist said: “Hopefully they will like it. I wanted to do something that would make William and Kate accessible.

“They are the modern breed of royals and they’re not like the others, they are more down to earth – they’re not the snooty types.”
