The singer shared a link to a petition calling for a second vote to be held on his Twitter account.

The petition has nearly three million signatures so far.

It states: “We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based on a turnout less than 75%, there should be another referendum.”

The Government website-hosted petition was set up by William Oliver Healey and comes amid a swell of unhappiness from voters following the referendum result to exit the EU.

Earlier he shared an article on his Twitter account, commenting: “This just in” as he posted the piece titled “Old UK turkeys vote for Christmas and then get very confused…”.

His fellow Radiohead producer and musician, Nigel Godrich, also shared the petition on Twitter.

Last week Thom joined other musicians such as Sir Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to sign an open letter to US Congress demanding tighter gun-control measures.

Initiated by American music publication Billboard, the letter called on Congress to “do more”, stating: “We call on Congress to do more to prevent the gun violence that kills more than 90 Americans every day and injures hundreds more, including: Require a background check for every gun sale. Block suspected terrorists from buying guns.”

The letter came in the wake of the Orlando shootings which saw 49 people killed when a gunman opened fire at a gay nightclub.
