Reedie warns ‘The world is watching’ after RUSADA declared non-compliant

president Sir Craig Reedie said &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;the world is watching and we have acted” after the organisation declared Russian Anti-Doping Agency &lpar;RUSADA&rpar; non-compliant with international sport’s anti-doping code&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Russia was provisionally suspended from all international athletics competitions by world governing body the IAAF last Friday after WADA’s independent commission’s findings of state-sponsored&comma; systemic doping practices&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>WADA’s foundation board&comma; which met at Colorado Springs in the United States on Wednesday&comma; said RUSADA should be declared non-compliant immediately&comma; with five other countries also given the same treatment&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Non-compliance means failing to respond to WADA’s requests for information and as a consequence&comma; organisations cannot operate until they become compliant&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Reedle said&colon; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The message is clear – there will now be greater focus on strengthening compliance work so all anti-doping organisations worldwide are held accountable to deliver robust anti-doping programs&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Our priority is now on ensuring all our partners are fully compliant and have watertight anti-doping systems that protect clean athletes and reassure sports fans worldwide&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Make no mistake&comma; we will not rush this process of compliance&comma; we will do it right – the integrity of sport is under threat&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Anti-doping in sport is under the spotlight today like never before&comma; and WADA&comma; along with our partners&comma; have begun the work needed on the road to recovery for Russia&period; The world is watching and we have acted&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;We will conduct the necessary meetings with the Russian authorities in respect of the non-compliance status of RUSADA that tests athletes in all sports within Russia&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;A WADA expert team will then meet with the task of ensuring the continuation of testing in Russia&period; Any information brought forward to me as a result will allow me to make a considered decision on whether or not to extend the independent commission’s mandate&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The theme of the day has clearly been investigations&period; I will now write to all public authority stakeholders and ask them to make further contributions specifically to fund anti-doping investigations&period; Following any commitments made&comma; I will then immediately approach the International Olympic Committee to seek matching funding&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The Russian Olympic Committee &lpar;ROC&rpar; has agreed to oversee changes and said it was &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;determined” clean athletes will compete at the Rio Games next summer and any drug cheats will be &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;punished”&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The ROC has agreed to make RUSADA&comma; the anti-doping laboratory in Moscow&comma; and the National Athletics Federation &lpar;ARAF&rpar; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;compliant with the WADA code and all other international anti-doping regulations as soon as possible” and said all athletes&comma; officials and coaches found guilty of doping will be punished in accordance with international anti-doping regulations&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The WADA independent commission report which said Russia was guilty of state-sponsored doping also added that it was not the only country &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;facing the problem of orchestrated doping in sport&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Andorra&comma; Argentina&comma; Bolivia and Ukraine were also declared as non-compliant&comma; with Brazil&comma; Belgium&comma; France&comma; Greece&comma; Mexico and Spain placed on a compliance watchlist&period;’<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The pressure has also intensified on Kenya&comma; who had earlier been warned by WADA that they could be ruled non-compliant if they failed to provide satisfactory answers to questions about their anti-doping programme&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The African nation topped the medal table at August’s World Championships in Beijing&comma; amid allegations of doping cover-ups in the country&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>A statement from WADA posted on Twitter read&colon; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;WADA has requested Kenya to answer questions relating to its anti-doping program&period; Await those answers&comma; and if unsatisfactory&comma; then it could be a matter for Compliance Review Committee&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;WADA is encouraged by media reports that Kenyan cabinet has now approved rules and approved laws and that it will commit funding to Kenyan anti-doping program&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Athletics Kenya vice-president David Okeyo&comma;
