<p>Geoffrey Rush has expressed his delight at the success of The King&#8217;s Speech in the Oscar nominations.</p>
<p>The actor &#8211; who has one of the film&#8217;s 12 nominations for his supporting role as unorthodox speech therapist Lionel Logue &#8211; said: &#8220;This story has struck such a rich resonant chord with audiences of all ages, which is very exciting &#8211; to have your work honoured by your industry peers is even better.&#8221;</p>
<p>Former Academy Award winner Ron Howard said he expected good things for The King&#8217;s Speech on Oscar night.</p>
<p>The Beautiful Mind director said: &#8220;I&#8217;m an Academy member so I&#8217;m not supposed to make predictions or tell you how I voted, but that [The King&#8217;s Speech] is a tremendous film.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s quite a year. A lot of terrific filmmakers did the best work of their lives and we, as fans, are the beneficiaries of that.&#8221;</p>
<p>David Fincher&#8217;s Facebook movie The Social Network is tipped to be The King&#8217;s Speech&#8217;s main rival in the best film category.</p>
<p>Its star Jesse Eisenberg &#8211; up for the leading actor gong &#8211; said: &#8220;To be nominated for this award, especially alongside these other actors, is truly astonishing and a great honour for me.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fincher, hoping for success in the best director field, said: &#8220;I&#8217;m very grateful and humbled by the nominations for The Social Network. I&#8217;m incredibly proud of the work of my wildly talented collaborators in front of and behind the camera.&#8221;</p>
<p>Meanwhile British filmmaker Mike Leigh said of his original screenplay nomination for Another Year: &#8220;I&#8217;m thrilled to bits.&#8221;</p>
<p>John Smithson, a producer on Danny Boyle&#8217;s survival movie 127 Hours, which is nominated for six gongs, said: &#8220;Danny and his team have done a tremendous job in creating an engaging film about one man&#8217;s near-death experience.&#8221;</p>
