		</div><p>Russia&#8217;s defence minister has accused Syrian rebels of shelling residential areas in the city of Aleppo.</p>
<p>Sergei Shoigu said more than 2,000 militants backed by dozens of tanks and armoured vehicles have launched attacks on living quarters, schools and hospitals in the government-controlled part of the city.</p>
<p>He also claimed the rebels had blocked civilians from leaving the rebel-controlled areas, killing dozens.</p>
<p>Rebels began an offensive on Friday to break the Syrian government&#8217;s siege of the eastern part of the city, which has been under their control since 2012.</p>
<p>Mr Shoigu said that a Russian moratorium on conducting air strikes on Aleppo has now entered a sixteenth day.</p>
