Ryan Lochte among four US swimmers robbed by armed men in Rio

the US Olympic Committee &lpar;USOC&rpar; said&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>In the latest security incident to hit the Rio de Janeiro Games&comma; Mr Lochte told NBC that one of the robbers put a gun to his forehead before taking his wallet&period; No one was injured&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Mr Lochte and his team-mates were returning to the athletes&&num;8217&semi; village by taxi after a night out at the French Olympic team&&num;8217&semi;s hospitality house in the Rodrigo de Freitas area in the upscale south zone of the city&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The outing was several hours after Olympic swimming ended at the Rio Games on Saturday night&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;Their taxi was stopped by individuals posing as armed police officers who demanded the athletes&&num;8217&semi; money and other personal belongings&comma;&&num;8221&semi; USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said in a statement&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;All four athletes are safe and co-operating with authorities&period;&&num;8221&semi;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Mr Sandusky told The Associated Press the robbers only took cash and credit cards&comma; and that no Olympic medals were lost&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Travelling with Mr Lochte were Gunnar Bentz&comma; Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen&period; Mr Lochte swam in two events at the Rio Games&comma; winning gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay&period; He is a 12-time Olympic medallist&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Mr Bentz and Mr Conger were also part of that relay&comma; their only event in Rio&period; Mr Feigen was on the 4x100m freestyle relay&comma; another gold winner for the US in Rio&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;We got pulled over&comma; in the taxi&comma; and these guys came out with a badge&comma; a police badge&comma; no lights&comma; no nothing&comma; just a police badge and they pulled us over&comma;&&num;8221&semi; Mr Lochte told NBC&&num;8217&semi;s Today show&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;They pulled out their guns&comma; they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground &&num;8211&semi; they got down on the ground&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;I refused&comma; I was like &&num;8216&semi;we didn&&num;8217&semi;t do anything wrong&comma; so I&&num;8217&semi;m not getting down on the ground&&num;8217&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;And then the guy pulled out his gun&comma; he cocked it&comma; put it to my forehead and he said &&num;8216&semi;get down&&num;8217&semi;&comma; and I put my hands up&comma; I was like &&num;8216&semi;whatever&&num;8217&semi;&period; He took our money&comma; he took my wallet &&num;8211&semi; he left my cellphone&comma; he left my credentials&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>USA Today and Fox Sports Australia first reported the news&comma; citing Mr Lochte&&num;8217&semi;s mother&comma; Ileana Lochte&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Word of the robbery touched off a chain of confusion between Olympic and US officials&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>An International Olympic Committee spokesman said reports of the robbery were &&num;8220&semi;absolutely not true&&num;8221&semi;&comma; then reversed himself&comma; apologised and said he was relying on initial information from the USOC that was wrong&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Street crime was a major concern of Olympic organisers going into the Games&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Brazil deployed 85&comma;000 soldiers and police to secure the event&comma; twice as many as Britain used during the 2012 London Olympics&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Last week&comma; a Brazilian security officer was fatally shot after taking a wrong turn into a dangerous favela&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Two Australian rowing coaches were attacked and robbed by two assailants in Ipanema&comma;
