		</div><p>Music streaming service Spotify has revealed it has gone past 100m monthly active users for the first time.</p>
<p>The music platform launched in 2006 as an alternative to Apple’s iTunes, enabling users to stream any song they wanted for free as long as they agreed to listen to short adverts between tracks. A paid-for subscription option removes the adverts, and is now used by more than 20 million people globally.</p>
<p>Spotify hasn’t commented further on the news beyond confirming the new user numbers, but it comes at a crucial time for the Swedish firm as it faces increasing pressure from Apple’s own streaming service, Apple Music, which launched last year.</p>
<p>Not only has Apple Music already gained around 13 million paying subscribers, but the iPhone maker used its WWDC conference last week to reveal a major overhaul of its interface, coming later this year.</p>
<p>Other services such as Tidal – owned by Jay-Z – have also increased the pressure on Spotify in recent months, which will make news of this milestone even more satisfying for those inside Spotify.</p>
