<p>Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Watson were among the A-listers who brought a touch of glamour to the red carpet at the Bafta film awards.</p>
<p>But it was music legend Sir Paul McCartney who stole the spotlight, recreating a bit of Beatlemania as he arrived to present a gong and was greeted by tearful fans wanting autographs.</p>
<p>Helena, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The King&#8217;s Speech, arrived in a restrained black Vivienne Westwood outfit which she described as &#8220;quite grown up for me&#8221;, after making headlines at the Golden Globes when she turned up in mis-matched shoes.</p>
<p>She admitted she had behaved like &#8220;an ostrich&#8221; the day after the awards in Los Angeles because she was so embarrassed, and said she hoped the rumours the Queen approved of the film were true.</p>
<p>Emma and her Harry Potter co-star Rupert Grint also attracted a lot of attention from screaming fans as they arrived at the ceremony.</p>
<p>Emma looked stunning with her new cropped hair and a delicate lace gown, while girls competed with each other shouting &#8220;Rupert we love you&#8221; and &#8220;Rupert we love you more&#8221; as he walked past.</p>
<p>Best actress nominee Annette Bening looked stunning in a white asymmetric gown, Orange Rising Star nominee Emma Stone stood out in a scarlet frock, and presenter Jessica Alba also drew attention in a bright blue dress.</p>
<p>Samuel L Jackson raised some of the loudest screams from the crowd as he strutted the red carpet, while Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg was cheered all the way along the red carpet.</p>
<p>Jesse said if he could not win a Bafta, he wanted The King&#8217;s Speech star Colin Firth to win because he was on &#8220;home turf&#8221;.</p>
