<p>Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has told Prime Minister David Cameron to &#8220;stop saying&#8221; he is a fan of the band.</p>
<p>Mr Cameron has spoken several times of his love of the Mancunian indie rockers and picked their track, This Charming Man, when he appeared on Desert Island Discs.</p>
<p>Marr, whose jangly guitar style was central to the band&#8217;s distinctive sound, tweeted: &#8220;David Cameron, stop saying that you like The Smiths, no you don&#8217;t. I forbid you to like it.&#8221;</p>
<p>The band, famously fronted by controversial singer Morrissey, enjoyed cult status in the 1980s before they split up in 1987.</p>
<p>It is not the first time band members have fallen out with Conservative politicians.</p>
<p>Morrissey&#8217;s debut album, 1988&#8217;s Viva Hate, included the song Margaret On The Guillotine which imagined the execution of Mrs Thatcher.</p>
