		</div><p>The Austrian Government mandated a lockdown for unvaccinated Austrians taking effect from this week, becoming the first ever country in Europe to impose such an extremely tough restriction but voices of dissent are beginning to unite.</p>
<p>According to the Austrian Chancellor, Alexander Schallenberg, two million people have not been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and the country faces a surge. He said, “We are not taking this step lightly, but unfortunately it is necessary”.</p>
<p>Unvaccinated people will only be allowed to leave home for limited reasons, such as work and buying food. Austria has one of the lowest rate of vaccination in Western Europe with about 65% of the population fully vaccinated. According to their seven-day infection rate health data, there is more than 800 cases per 100,000 which is one of the highest in the region.</p>
<p>According to the French Daily News outlet, the leader The leader of the Freedom Party (FPÖ), Herbert Kickl, called for a “mega-demonstration” on November 20 in Vienna against this lockdown.</p>

<p>It also states Manfred Haidinger, president of the Austrian Armed Forces Union (FGÖ), joined in with the call in a letter published on November 14. He stated that he intends to “defend fundamental rights and freedoms”. The FGÖ specifies that &#8220;everyone&#8221; is allowed to demonstrate, even in case of confinement!</p>
<p>Manfred Haidinger (FGÖ) added in his letter: “We hereby point out that participation in assemblies is a particularly protected legal right and that this is also taken into account in the currently available draft ordinance. Participation and travel throughout Austria is permitted.”</p>
<p>The obligation of control imposed by the Minister of the Interior, Karl Nehammer, has already been rejected by the police union. In addition, the Union of Austrian Armed Forces announced that they will participate in the big rally in Vienna.</p>
<p>The police and army refuse to control health passes in the name of &#8220;freedom and human dignity&#8221;. They will also join a major demonstration against mandatory lockdown on November 20, 2021 in Vienna.</p>
