<p>TUI Travel has said demand in the UK for activity-led holidays such as biking and sailing had lifted bookings for next summer.</p>
<p>The owner of Thomson Holidays said bookings for its &#8220;differentiated&#8221; product range &#8211; holidays available only through TUI which include sporting breaks &#8211; were up 26% in summer 2011, leading to a 7% rise in total UK summer bookings, when compared to the same period last year.</p>
<p>The company said advanced bookings were also driven by demand for the more flexible holiday dates TUI now offers &#8211; with nine to 12 night stays proving popular. Travel firms traditionally offer seven or 14 nights only.</p>
<p>The encouraging outlook comes as TUI Travel reported a 4% increase in pre-tax, pre-exceptionals profits to £337 million, after a 2% decline in revenues to £13.5 billion.</p>
