The six-time Olympic champion suffered a hamstring tear at his country’s national trials at the start of July but was named in the 63-strong squad which was released by the Jamaica Olympic Association.

The 29-year-old, who will defend his 100m, 200m and 4x100m medals in Brazil this summer, was one of four Jamaican athletes who applied for medical exemption.

The Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association allows for medical exemptions if an athlete can show an injury denied them the chance to compete at the trials.

Fellow sprinter Elaine Thompson and hurdlers Janieve Russell and Hansle Parchment have also been granted exemptions, a statement on Team Jamaica’s website confirmed.

Bolt will look to prove his fitness and form at the Muller Anniversary Games in London which start on July 22.
