The World Health Organisation announced on Monday that Mpox will be the synonym for monkeypox disease.
This move was made to remove the global stigma attached to this disease all over Europe and the United States.

There has been continuous slurs and name shaming with the virus causing an increased pressure from the Biden administration urging the the WHO to consider a change of name of this disease.

“Both names will be used simultaneously for one year while ‘monkeypox’ is phased out,” the global health organisation said.

There has been over 80,000 cases of monkeypox disease reported in about 100 countries since the outbreak of the virus earlier this year. The disease still remains as a public health emergency of international concern according to the WHO.
