<p>British Airways has announced a second hike in its fuel surcharge on long-haul flights in as many months, blaming the soaring price of jet fuel.</p>
<p>The carrier said the surcharge will increase by £12 a flight for World Traveller passengers and by £17 per flight for First and Club passengers.</p>
<p>BA said the spot price of jet fuel was up 14% since the last duty rise in mid-December, which was the result of substantial increases in oil prices.</p>
<p>The additional charge will spell more misery for air passengers, coming just months after a hike in Air Passenger Duty Tax.</p>
<p>The rise means that the fuel surcharge for World Traveller flights of under nine hours will increase by 19%, or £12 to £75, while the charge for flights of more than nine hours will increase by 16% or £12 to £88.</p>
<p>First and Club World flights of under nine hours will see the charge increase by 19% to £105, while flights of over nine hours will increase 16% to £125.</p>
<p>The hike in the fuel surcharge does not apply to short-haul flights or to flights operated by BA&#8217;s new partner Iberia.</p>
<p>BA merged with the Spanish carrier to form International Consolidated Airlines Group last month.</p>
