<p>Christian Bale has revealed that he auditioned for Three Kings, but failed to get the part.</p>
<p>The Batman star, who is up for best supporting actor for his portrayal of boxer Dicky Eklund in David O Russell&#8217;s The Fighter, previously met the director during the casting process for 1999&#8217;s Three Kings.</p>
<p>&#8220;It was nothing like the first meeting that David and I ever had &#8211; well, I won&#8217;t go into it, but I auditioned for Three Kings and it didn&#8217;t go very well for me,&#8221; he told US presenter Charlie Rose.</p>
<p>&#8220;But then we got together [for The Fighter] and it was clear this was the right crowd,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Christian didn&#8217;t go into details about which role in the Iraq war film he went for, which starred George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze.</p>
<p>But David said: &#8220;I had already cast my friend Spike Jonze, so I was probably doing the [audition] as a favour to the studio,&#8221; to which Christian quipped: &#8220;You were just treading water!&#8221;</p>
