<p>Christian Bale is set to star as a priest in a new movie by Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou.</p>
<p>The Hero director revealed that Christian will play an American cleric in his latest project, about 13 prostitutes struggling to survive a 1937 attack by Japanese soldiers on Nanjing.</p>
<p>Zhang, who starts shooting in January, said he hopes to spread the story of war atrocities in the Chinese city to young people in Western countries.</p>
<p>Historians say the Nanjing massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking, resulted in the slaughter of at least 150,000 civilians. </p>
<p>China puts the number killed at 300,000, making it one of the worst atrocities of the World War II era.</p>
